@AxelObcessed From what I understand, Marly got a sex change becuase he and Larxene were plotting against the Organization. Two women trying to overthrow a male organization, and failing, could have been interpreted as sexist.

@Lightningtail if Marly had been female, that would have meant that all the female characters of COM would have been traitors. That would have had some serious unfortunate implications about females, so the studio made him male to AVOID sexism.
