YouTube, you never cease to confuse me.

The staff at AIO, however, are rather clear:
Dear audiobooks7,

My name is Nathan Hoobler and I work for Adventures in Odyssey at Focus on the Family. It's come to my attention that you've put some Adventures in Odyssey episodes on YouTube. I greatly appreciate your enthusiasm for the show. However, posting the episodes is technically copyright infringement. Because these high-caliber productions involve a significant financial investment and require a blend of gifted actors and actresses and a talented production team, we offer them for a fee to help cover our expenses. So, I ask you to please take down the Adventures in Odyssey episodes and not post any more in the future.

Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions...or if you'd just like to chat!

Nathan
[email omitted]

I have removed all of the AIO episodes, as per his request.

My response:
"Hello Nathan.
I apologize for not having taken the AIO episodes down. As you might have seen from visiting my channel in the past, I have not been on it for around about 9 months. The reason for this was a conflagration of things. I was having problems, on and off, with the software I was using, and as well, torrenting has become a much more common thing for audio, thus decreasing the need that I saw for making audiobooks available in more generality.

The last straw, however, (combined with becoming busier in my personal life) was in a comment posted on the profile of where I was uploading Atlas Shrugged: "Hmm, did you know that Ayn Rand was a huge proponent of intellectual property laws?" I didn't. I ceased all uploading after that, wanting to make sure that uploading videos was not, indeed, a violation of the philosophy of Atlas Shrugged (loved the book).

Although I am still rather on the fence about the matter, I have generally concluded that when the people who have made the books and audiobooks are still living, that it makes sense for the money to go to them. However, after they are dead, the issue becomes fuzzier. The issue of inheritance, as well as infinity intellectual rights seems crazy to me (yeah, sure, 100 or 75 years, whatever; that's still nuts). Additionally, in this digital age, it becomes more increasingly impractical to enforce intellectual property rights. Accordingly, it is probably the reality that they will soon not be used by the vast majority of producers.

However, since I am for the most part still on the fence about the entire thing, and since the people who made the episodes are quite clearly alive, it makes sense to take them down. I have done so. If you see any that I have missed, tell me.

I'm not sure if you'd like to chat with me, but I'm certainly up for chatting with you. I'm not sure because you might be pissed at me after all these months with the episodes still being up. Really, I'm surprised this account hasn't been shut down. I figured that some of the videos would be flagged, the three thing would go up, and the channel would be suspended. Anyway... cheerio."

  • It's b/c technically speaking uploading copyrighted audio/video is illegal. That basically cancels out 95% of YouTube videos ha, but that's why you got that message.

  • I got the SAME exact message from Nathan when I was "Busted" uploading episodes...EXACT WORD FOR WORD....
