Like Chrissie Hynde, sometimes their tone and feel isn't that great on certain songs. So the guitar is used more as a device to help keep the meter while singing. It's all for the betterment of the performance. I dig it when a band cares more about the performance than stroking a band members ego. The better the sound quality the more apt I am to pay to see them again. If the singer wants to have their instrument turned up they should work on getting their chops together. It's as simple as that.

She is such an unbelievable performer. She can do rock, she can do soulful. And she's awesome as a singer/songwriter so artist, too. But she was an AMAZING rocker back in the day ... I think people just didn't really get what Lone Justice was about as a band. That's the only reason I can think of for her not being more famous and universally regarded.

I think it's just the sound mix. I always got the feeling that they turned down her guitar when they were playing live because she wasn't playing very cleanly. Besides, she was playing rhythm guitar, so you weren't really expected to hear her guitar very distinctly. You can hear her acoustic guitar on "Shelter" and "Belfry" from this same concert, though.

Someone obviously pulled her guitar cord plug from the amp. She's working hard, but no sound is coming out. I just watched a Pretenders video last night - same thing, no sound from Chrissie Hynde's guitar.
