one of the few arcade games i actually finished as a kid! was majorly addicted to this, the first cover-based 3rd person shooter?! that's right, there'd be no gears without cabal, kids!

yeh its the bootleg version the us version had proper sound but no roll and u really need roll lol i just put some metal on and have the sound off used to play this game when i was like 6 yo if enyone doesent no u can play this shit on mame32 google cabal roms

Yeah, it is the bootleg version. The original arcade version did indeed have a roll but you had to "flick" the joysick up right or up left and press the fire button at the same time. Where as the bootleg version just has a stand alone button for roll.
