Although this spectacle will result in discipline and sanctions, it is considered great entertainment by many fans.
The Roman coliseum comes to mind when there is such spectator glee when civil events turn into mayhem and violence. Sports can be of great physical and psychological benefit to players, and good entertainment for viewers only if it can be conducted with dignity and professionalism.
If we keep lowering the bar in "entertainment," we spell our own doom. A sustainable future for humans has to do with kindness, patience, forgiveness, conscience, and reaching for the highest of ethic, not dumbing down to the hind-brain fight and pleasure centers.
