I traded an 09 Camry for a 2011 Avenger and I am VERY pleased. My wife talked me into the Camry, but was the the first one who wanted it gone. This car is no where near as bad as everyone seems to think. Smooth, very quiet, and well built. Our Camry was (This is going to blow your mind) flat out junk. Build quality sucked, and Im pretty sure my push lawn mower had more power. Whether or not our Avenger holds up, we'll see. But it surely can't be any worse...

I think the one you rented is one with the inline-4 cyl.; a lot of people say that the base-4 isn't very powerful and lets them down; a lot of people say that the engine doesn't go, thus a popular rental car. Blandish looks on the rental? Can't blame you there. If one really wants to consider the Avenger for 2012, one should consider the R/T with Pentastar V-6 with racing-inspired seats.

@thecatsgonewild Same. Just got stuck in one while my truck was in for maintenance. Is it bad to say a 1/2 ton handles better is quicker and has a better ride quality.I have only seen 1 of these on the road where I live and I think it was the very same rental. They don't sell them at either of the local dodge dealers here makes me question how good they really are. There's to much bounce in the suspension and when you hit a bump well hope it wasn't in a corner. This was the 4cly version...

rented one of these...its crap. the engine doesnt pull, it sounds horrible, no rear legroom and you hit your knee all the time on the lower front panel. i can push every body panel in, and the bottom front panel can be pushed prom side to side. my 2002 mazda tribute handles better, rides better, is more practical, just as economical, and is faster. i hate dodge
