Salvatore Giunta Medal of Honor Part 1

Staff Sgt. Salvatore A. Giunta, a Vicenza, Italy, based paratrooper, was awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism above and beyond the call of duty in Afghanistan.

Giunta, serving with Company B, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, and a native of Hiawatha, Iowa, will be the first living service member to earn the award since Vietnam.

In this moving interview, Giunta describes the October 2007 ambush in the Korengal Valley, for which his warrior skills and bravery are being recognized, and reflects on the meaning of his experiences.

Devoid of any false bravado or cliche, a great soldier, a true hero tells it all in his own words — not to be missed.
