Star Trek's Starship Enterprise Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner) cut quite a swath in the galaxy with his various amours among human and other-worldly females. Here's a pastiche of Kirk Klinches to the tune of "Beyond Antares" as sung by Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) in "The Conscience of the King" - ST:TOS, S1E13, Original Air Date: 8 December 1966. The song was written by Wilbur Hatch with lyrics by Producer Gene L. Coon.

  • Nichelle Nichols DID have a thing with producer Gene Coon. She made a sardonic statement once, "I'm Gene L's Coon."

  • wonder if it's

    the scented waterfall is cooling

    (???)

  • I'll be back, though it takes forever

    Forever is just a day.

    Forever is just another journey

Tomorrow a stop along the way

And let the years go fading

    Where my heart is

    2x

    Where...my love eternally is waiting

    Somewhere, beyond the stars

    Beyond Antares

  • "The producer's girlfriend sings..."

The skies are green and glowing

    Where my heart is

    2x

Where the scented lunar flower is blooming

    Somewhere, beyond the stars

    Beyond Antares

  • @DarkestElemental616 - " Ohhhh. this isn't reality, Ensign..... THIS IS FANTASY ! " From Star Trek III ( Where she held the snarky young Ensign a phaser - point in Space - dock ). & the scene in ST : IV where Uhura & Chekov beamed on to the nuclear carrier Enterprise - Much better than having Uhura sitting obediently at her station.

Even the Animated Series had Uhura take command ONCE.

  • @knoxvilleguy2 That's what made the movies more fun. :D

  • She actually had an album with a FANTASTIC rendition of " Beyond Antares " on it - done in a studio, back - up singers & everything. If N. Nichols hadn't been an actress, she could've made a career on music alone. One of the best reasons to watch Original Star Trek, though.

Her character could've been much more than an interstellar switchboard operator in the original series, though, but I guess NBC / Paramount was chicken about making her into more of an officer.

  • Lovely. I like this video just before sleep time. It puts me in a sort of pleasant, dreamy half-consciousness. Pretty song. Pretty Kirk. Mmmm, goodnight.

  • No way. NN had an affair with Gene RODDENBERRY before Star Trek. Gene COON was Roddenberry's Co-Writer and had a secretary, she said on the telephon: "Hello, Coons Coon": This ist the right story and history, to be read in NN biography "Beyond Uhura"

  • It is fitting that an original ST-TOS song is paired with the amourous galactic laisons of the Enterprise Captain Kirk.
