this is not an attitude of a karateca

    karate it's not just competion

yes... rafael is good at combat (kumite) but he certanly lacks the respect for the other fellow and so... he lacks the spirit of a real karateca

instead of watching videos of aghayev... watch a real karateca: kancho kanazawa

  • I think you are over analyzing things my friend, This is a sport karate competition, out of all the athletes, Rafael had the most respect. As for real Karate-ka, Karate spirit can be demonstrated in many ways, not just in the dojo. it is all what the person is looking to study.

Of course like most closed minded Karate people, you are judging a person with out knowing them in person. from what I witnessed, the ENTIRE Azerbaijani team demonstrated a great amount of respect to others.

  • @karatekid73

    yes... maybe i'm over reacting...

but in minute 4:20 like I said before... it looks like he is taunting the adversary...

in the other combats that I saw of him he never did that... so i was a little shocked about that...

i just think that if he was really taunting him it's runs from the principles of karate, it looks like he thinks he's superior to the adversary...

if it isn't what he was doing... then my bad...

  • Rafael is not Taunting, He is head faking or trying to lure in an attack from his opponent. His game plan is to expose himself, then counter off the action of the other fighter. it is not a taunt. I believe it is simply a way to make the other fighter think he can attack and get them to punch or lunge in. once they do they fall right in to his strategy.

I was talking to one of his coaches there and he confirmed this to me. They are really well mannered in and out of the ring.

  • hes just so good but in the final to be caught by the same technique in quick sucsetion just proves that he isnt unbeatable and is slightly more than a bit cocky :D hes amazing and a second idol to me though

  • Actually he only got tagged once... i made a boo boo when producing this video.. and duplicated that particular point in the match for about 5 - 6 seconds...oopp.. just to clarify he only got hit once...

  • @karatekid73 Karate Kid said it right! He is very respectful, Ive met him in person and he is a better sportsman than anything else. There is nothing wrong with having confidence in what you do. Im not saying Kanazawa is a bad guy, but he does have his own organization which is the SKIF which branched from Funakoshi right? Would that me him kind of egotistic? He even has his symbol on Tokaido Gi's. Regardless, Im going to be testing with him in July just because of his reputation.

  • Wow...very talented fighter!!!

  • @Azeritakedownmaster how do you compare a kick and a punch?

  • @karatekid73 i heard he does this because no one will attack him unless he is open coz they know how his defence is really strong.

  • @muitokaralio TKD and Karate are almost nothing alike. I don't want to rip on TKD because you guys have awesome kicks and martial skills; but if you watch, karate focuses on hard twisting and clean techniques. Tournament taekwondo is too messy and sloppy for me. Now traditional taekwondo is badass. Watch the difference between Aghayev's punching and a TKD competitor's kick. Very different.

  • Azerbaijan foreverrrrr.

  • @karatekid73

hum... yes you are right... i didn't see it that way....

it's just in all combats that i saw i never saw that strategy... quite clever really...

it's just that only 20% of world «karate» are original karate, and so... most of the videos on utube are from that «karate» associations... but i just found out that i have a friend on your world oraganization and i can now believe that it's an association that sticks to the original principles of karate

    my deepest apologies :)
