Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, the duo simply known as Bonnie & Clyde, were notorious outlaws who robbed their way through the Central United States during the Great Depression. Their adventures were known nationwide and caught the attention of the American press during what was known as the "public enemy era " between 1931 and 1935. The couple were notorious for robbing any place with cash, from gas stations to small stores, and eventually graduating to banks.

Bonnie and Clyde were the first celebrity criminals of the modern era. The duo has already cemented themselves as part of the American popular culture, having books, songs, and films written about them. Joseph Geringer's Romeo and Juliet in a Getaway Car is one of the books written about them. Georgie Fame's " The Ballad of Bonnie and Clyde" and Ice Cube's "The Bonnie and Clyde Theme" are some of the examples. Then movies came out as well, with Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway plating the lead roles. The partnership was such a part of the American culture that even in Gibsland, Louisiana, a "Bonnie and Clyde Festival" is celebrated.

Wikipedia even considers the two as a "super couple." Super couples are defined as "culturally significant, high profile, and nearly perfect romances that influence our expectations of what a great love story should be."

Such type of couples takes form in television, celebrity, literature, comic books, musical and in the Bonnie & Clyde case, in crime and violence as well. Bonnie & Clyde's good looks and their unmistakably alluring, if not deadly, chemistry. Their seemingly meant-to-be union, gave us onlookers the sense of grand romance, a love story cheer for and live vicariously through as they provide hope that such love exists. They are simply couples who unbelievably inspire.
