Joes POV: I opened the door to find a girl sitting down in the corner of the room, she had her knees in her chest and her face was covered by her hair, I debated on whether I should go in or not, but her crying answered the question for me, I stood in the doorway making sure no one was looking at me, they say were not allowed to go into anybody elses room but I never follow the rules anyway, I looked back at the girl she was still crying, I spoke in a soft voice

Joe: are you okay?
Girl: (no answer)
Joe: hello?....excuse me.[maybe shes deaf] girly.
G: (no response)

I should just goleave her it was non of my business anyway but something just didnt let me go, it was like a force that was telling me to stay, I dont have any idea why but for some reason I found myself walking closer towards her, she didnt move an inch and kept her head down, she was so skinny it looked like she could easily be broken, she was gripping onto something tight in her hands, I could tell because her knuckles were turning white, I gently knelt down infront of her and tried to see her face

Joe: (whispers) hey.you okay?
G: (cries)
Joe: (looks at her)

I felt the urge to hug her, I had no idea why but I just felt I should be hugging her, something about her just seemed, famailar

Joe: (gently hugs her) hey sssh its gonna be alright
G: n-nothing will e-ever be a-alright

Hallelujahshe isnt deaf, atleast she was talking nowthat was a start right

Joe: (hugs her tighter) whats wrong.why wont anything be alright

She didnt answer back and just kept crying, I didnt want to pressure her into telling me so I just held her in my arms, it was just so weird how I could be hugging and comforting someone I dont even know, I found myself rocking her back and forth, just like a baby, I could see her face in my chest, she didnt look much older than 10 years old, I kept asking myself, why am I here? and why am I holding her who is she and why do I feel like I know her, time passed by and we were still in that position, I thought she fell asleep when

G: (whispers) Thankyouand im sorry
Joe: (startled) huh? Oh youre still awake..i thought you were asleep and why are you sorry?
G: I havent been asleep in days, and im sorry I disturbed youyou can go if you want and thanks again (pulls away)
Joe: you didnt disturb me, and im glad to be here, I dont know why but I feel as ifas if
G: as if you know me?
Joe: yh (smiles)
G: I knowsame herewhen you hugged me I thought iI got my d-dad back (starts crying again)

I hugged her again, she started to tremble, I didnt know what was wrong with her so I just said the first thing that came to my mind

Joe: do you like pizza?
G: (stopped crying and looked at him)

Okaynot my best question but it stopped her crying and tremblingI feel like having a pizza nowdamn my stomach

Joe: I know not the time for a question like that but—
G: (smiles a little) I love pizzawhats your favourite topping
Joe: (looks at the girl) umm how about
Joe+G: everything (laughs)
Joe: wow..finally a girl who likes the same pizza topping as me
G: I guess(smiles) thanksI havent smiled in ages
Joe: youre welcomeyou know you should smile more oftenit suits you
G: (looks down and mumbles) not when you hear that your parents are dead
Joe: huh? What?
G: (sighs) nothing
Joe: oh okayshouldnt you get back to bed nowits late
G: I dont want toI cant get to sleepI get nightmares
Joe: I know the feeling.if you dont mind me askinghow old are you?
G: I just turned 8 yesterday
Joe: wow and youre in hospitaldid someone have too much birthday cake that theyre poorly
G: (laughs) noIve been here for the past 2 weeks
Joe: why what happened?
G: well—
Joe: im sorry but whats youre name?
G: (smiles) Sabrina
Joe: thats a beautiful name
Sabrina: thanks
Nurse: (comes in) excuse me but youre supposed to be asleep
Sabrina: I know but—
Nurse: no butsget to sleep (leaves)
Joe: dang that nurse is harsh
Sabrina: hmmno one even came to confort me when I found out
Joe: found out what?
