How to change the fluid in the rear differential of a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis. I misspoke when I said four litres. The capacity of the rear differential is two litres or almost four pints.

  • The GS didn't come with the TractionLock dif? Was that just an option? This car is going to be brand new by the time your done with it -LOL!

  • big thanks for that video. Always nice to see how something is actually done.

  • my '88 Grand Marquis has a 2.73/1 ratio gearset. That is quite tall. When the AOD trans is in 4th gear (overdrive) the car is sluggish feeling, even with the 5.0 EFI V8 engine. The good side of that is that it gets like 24-26 mpg highway. Must go 70-80 MPH! Everything's original, and it has close to 200k miles. I've changed the differential oil twice now, both time because it needed new axle bearings and seals. Once at 90k mi., and once at 180k mi. The gears are still in excellent shape.

  • they are all 8.8 diff from 79 on up if it has a tow package with dual exhuast it usually came with the k code axle with a 3.55 track lok, box limos have a k code standard in thier rear ends... my 2 cents alsao it take aqbout 2 qts of diff fluid
