I know its hard to teach someone without seeing what they are doing wrong. But I just fail at serving so much. I am great at everything else except for serving. I get 1 or 2 servers in every so often and then I just go shit again. My coach started me off with the basic float serve but now his saying to take my time throw it up higher and hit it as hard as I can and that is better but still doesn't work great. Any tips?

@lilmizzoptimistic Without seeing you serve it’s hard to say for sure, but generally speaking, a lack of power in your serve can have a lot to do with your toss. Make sure you are tossing the ball in front of your shoulder so you can step in to your serve. If you are tossing behind your head, you have to reach back for the ball and you will not have as much power.

My dad is trying to get me to serve in the same motion as throwing a ball. He says I have to cross my arm in front of my body when I swing but I don't believe him, is this true?

@froofy101 As far as the serving skill for a float serve, it is best to stop your open hand (contact point) above your head for it to float. There are different philosophies on arm swings, mainly for attacking with the motion going across your body. However, the best way to have an accurate and effective serve, “freezing” the palm to your location across the net is best when it comes to serving. Good luck!
