Patrick Barrett's brand new and utterly amazing version of my classic Billy Griffin song, "Technicolour", simply gives me goosebumps, as does this wonderful video. My brand new album, "Yesterday And Tomorrow", is probably the most dear to my heart project that I have ever undertaken. I decided after thirty three years since I made my very first record, "Reaching For The Best" by The Exciters, to take a trip back down memory lane and recut thirty of my classics on artists who I am currently working with, reinterpreting them in 2008 without losing the magic that made them special in the first place. It's a totally self indulgent project, but one which already has my fans salivating with delight. I first got the idea when I recut Evelyn Thomas's wonderful classic "Have A Little Faith In Me" with Ebony Alleyne, last year. So I'm doing thirty in total, twenty four for the CD and six more extra ones for the DVD, picking either my biggest hits, my most beloved tracks, or the songs which people most requested to see a video. As I must clearly explain, these are not the original versions. And that's what makes the project exciting and new. These are brand spanking new interpretaions of the classics, by Centre City's current roster of artists , built up over a thirty three year career of making records.

My wonderful protege Tahira Jumah recommended I meet Patrick. He was discovered by a great guy called Paul Cahalane, who has set up www.singeraudition.com as a new way of discovering singers who can be recommended to producers like me, and between Tahira and Paul, I had rave reports about Patrick Barrett. He is just seventeen years old and comes from Zimbabwe. He has only been in England for a year, and can only be compared to Michael Buble, having that fresh faced cool jazz style that enabled someone so young to sing such a complicated message song as this one, which Billy and I co-wrote in 1989, as a sort of tribute to Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On/Mercy Mercy Me" era. The album, "Yesterday And Tomorrow" will hopefully be released on March 3rd on Centre City Records, exclusively through the new website, http://www.ianlevine.co.uk - and I hope you will all consider supporting it.
Last chance to remind everyone - tomorrow night is the launch party for this album. You can still come to "142" in West Ealing if you just send an email to the yesterdayandtomorrowlaunch address at hotmail. It's free for all the fans and over twenty artists are performing their songs live, from the "Yesterday And Tomorrow" album. Don't miss this.

I love the integrity in Patrick's voice and his ability to Pop the pocket.
You can understand all the words...and all writers dig it when their words are heard..
Congrats Patrick!!

How lovely and utterly fabulous to have my co-writer and this song's original artist post a comment. Billy - you are a star as always. I was so excited to redo this song, especially as we never had any video footage of the original, and I still love it so so so very much.
