Yeah. The R4 isn't so bad if you can get it cheaply. I've seen 1-1 clones (and we are talking about cheap here, not the original ones) go for $3.00. And you can run woodR4 on it, which is cool because it's based off of the same source-code as AKAIO was.
Real and 1-1 clone R4s _are_ pretty good in terms of price. I just don't want people to think that anything with "R4" on it must be good. Then you end up with people complaining about their R4iGoldTTDSi Upgrade IIIs to you.

with fake info, youtube on the other hand CAN be a very good source. because it has alot of official info for many things. i agree r4ds is not the BEST anymore... but its price and quality now-adays goes unmatched when you compare to other ds carts. even though some are fake/clones

mine is not made by another company. and your right. considering acekard 2 supercard,etc, is smart for someone who has alot of money to spare. but if your pretty low on income. a r4ds like mine which is real is your best bet. and if your in USA and want a ds flashcart, then youll probably look at r4ds FIRST. because of its price. mine i only got this month. but it was my first option due to income and quality. i also never said your sources were invalid. only said that site was a fansite

Yes, 1.1.8 is the most recent official, real R4 firmware. And yes, I didn't mean to imply that the only version was 1.1.8. Sorry for that misunderstanding.
Oh, and you're right. Some people from the R4 team are still in the business. But the original company is dead.
Look, I'm not trying to claim that every R4 out there won't work- I'm just saying that, considering the alternative carts and the massive amount of fake and clone R4s, the R4 is not the best cart to buy anymore.

Ok, I know that the official R4 does not have any forums. Did I claim that they did? That site's a non-biased forum. Besides, how does that invalidate my other sources? It doesn't.
I know that your R4 is not a fake or a full clone. It is either a stockpiled old one or a 1-1 clone. If it is a 1-1 clone, it will be physically identical to the real cart, but be made by another company. The R4's hardware details are not a secret.

also v1.1.8 is the most recent REAL firmware. it didnt just start at 1.1.8.. LOL

mine doesntn support sdhc. only microsd. and it supports all old firmware. doesnt work with dsi. and it also has passed all those STUPID how to tell if its a r4 is real tests. didnt click when pushing didnt have a chip under sticker etc. i just bought it this month. LOL...
