Democracy is NOT for everyone: democracy is for the majority. Indeed, if a majority of 50.1% agreed upon an issue, then this would be barely more than half of society. It is even possible to be less than 50%, if more than two options/parties are to be elected from. Does a democracy not advance the oppression of minorities? I am not necessarily advocating that it does, I am simply advocating dismissing such a naive and commonplace view of democracy - Mill has a good point to make concerning this.

U R sooo right. Alexis de Tocqueville--though a foreigner (French)--wrote a seminal work about democracy in America. He talked about d importance of civil society doing active voluntary work vis-a-vis the state. Thanx 4 your added insight!

Indeed. I do belive that democracy is working good only in an active society, where some individuals have the citizenship-belive in the idea. I get sick of hearing, that it's all about the elections. The best study on the subject and proof would "Democracy in America" by Alexis de Tocqueville imho.
Good luck on other clips, they are v.good!

Yeah, indeed. Nice 2 c each other's contributions & interact w/ 1 another. Cheers.

Very good. Nice to see some participation on this subject
The best thing about that book is that Tocqueville himself was not a supporter of democracy. Sad, that such objectivism is so rare these days.
If I may ask, why are you doing these clips? Hobby?

democracy may be all those pretty words in your video but its not protection of minorities. Haven't you heard the saying "democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what's for dinner" ?

The minimalist definition of democracy:
"a political system for choosing & replacing the government through free & fair elections." That's up to slide at 0:11. The rest of the video up to the very end at 1:58 is my critique & expansion of the minimalist definition. I went beyond the normal purview of the term, adding & enriching the original intent & content of democracy. Peace!
