Shame this guy didn't get the nomination. He was a significantly viable alternative to Obama. Fuck the Tea Party hijacking the party :\

Not to downplay your efforts in learning English, because learning any foreign language is an amazing achievement... but because English is regarded as the most global and international language, few people ever expect a native English speaker to learn a foreign language, simply because it's not necessary for them. Aside from this, English is taught from primary school in Asia by law. This is not the case in many Western countries. I'm not saying it's good, but that's just how it is.

I agree. Yes, I've already started learning a bit...but I'm still putting most of my focus on Mandarin :)

Oh no, I totally understand. I think the world would be a better place if English speakers knew a second language, but unfortunately many people, old and young, don't value foreign languages because they feel it's not necessary (because English is the most global language). It's pretty shit, but it's the way it is. I hope it changes one day and I hope you decide to pick up French eventually. :)

I do agree that it is surprising to see foreigners speaking Mandarin, but I disagree that learning a foreign language isn't necessary for English speakers. If you want to remain competitive in certain job markets, a second or even third language is necessary. There are many jobs that I want which I don't qualify for because I don't speak French!

I hope he runs again in 2016. Obama is a nice guy, but I'll have enough of his "tell people what they want to hear" rhetoric after 4 years.

his Chinese is fucking terrible, but nice try lol. Kevin Rudd's is much better, he can actually have complex conversations in Chinese on politics and economics etc. I don't think JH can do that
