Claire Short is well meaning but the problem with her thesis is obvious. The real crisis comes not from mining, (if at all) but the problem of population explosion (no birth control) and feeding that population. Rice farming can be destroyed by a single typhoon and its back breaking work. Another factor ignored is that the Phillpines has no major river deltas and its not the best country in the region to grow the crop that why it imports so much of it. Again, ignored by the report.
