'You Must Believe In Spring' - a jazz piano lesson. Sorry about the title page on the video where I called it 'You Must Remember Spring! This is quite a challenging song to play - Bill Evans' versions, including the one with Tony Bennett are brilliant.
Like other videos I have done recently, this includes a scrolling notation view, as well as clear views of the keyboard. It is intended as a lesson, so I perhaps have gone a bit 'over the top' crowding in a lot of things to illustrate different techniques!
To get a clear more readable view of the transcription, you probably need to go to my site at http://web.newsguy.com/dougmck There is a stereo version there which should play as it loads - also a midi file, and the backing that I used.
Check out this excellent version by a young Lithuanian jazz pianist

  • Great rendition and lesson! This is the first recording of this tune that I've heard played in the key of CMaj modulating to DbMaj. I've always played (and heard it) in Dmaj/Ebmaj. Don't get me wrong, I love it down a whole step. Its refreshing! Did you play it in that key for the sake of the lesson, or is this just a key that you've always played it in? Once again, I enjoy your videos. Thanks Doug.

  • Thanks JC10255

I think I chose this key because the singer, who I often accompany, does it in this key.

  • Simply a masterclass rendering of one of my most preferred pieces ever. Cheers to you!!!! Although I do not read music, I try very hard to get somewhere in my jazz playing by listening intensely. I salute therefore your effort to bring to us all the nuances of your playing which is marvellous (I like especially 2:40 to 2: 50 then 3:30 to 3:40). THANKS!!!

  • I don't read music, but following the score w/ audio is wonderful. Great rendition of a beautiful melody.

  • Very good, but i have the original partiture, the original version :D

  • You are one blessed 'cat'. Great piano playing.

  • Thank you so much for making those videos! I'm just starting out and learning a lot from those. 5++

    Greetings from Oslo.

  • Listening to your excellent rendition of this fine tune was a great pleasure. Thank you!

  • This is one of my all-time favorite songs and I believe this is an even-better version than Legrand's or Bill Evans' (both of which I adore!) Way to go!

  • The realisation is very useful. Stop and go, try and listen.

  • This is good!!!!

  • nice man...different . I love this song, but other players sound like Bill Evans.
