In terms of races from the '97 season, this was definitely one of the crazier ones. I mean, 4 guys dropped out for various reasons *while leading* the race. I'd give anything to see one guy crash out of the lead nowadays - it has that OMG NO WAY factor to it, no matter who it is.

Aside from Carl at Talladega in '09, when was the last time that happened?

Anyway, here's the craziness to the '97 Miller 500 at Dover, with some hard wrecks in there along with some great racing action.

The only Dover race I didn't attend from 1995 - 2005. What a shame. Terrific race and very bizarre, indeed.

Weird, I am 28 as well. 1983, representin'. haha

Anyway, yeah, I wouldn't ever see myself watching 18 hours of a 24-hour race. Even if the Daytona 500 was that long, I don't know if my attention span could take it.

Even though I've always considered myself to be pretty hardcore, I salute you, sir. heheh

I'm 28, however I don't have a wife or kids as of yet. But thankfully most racing happens on weekend, because I'm one of those people who will watch 18 hours of the 24 hours of Le Mans and stuff like that. For me, the more racing to watch at any given time the better it is. Sure I got stuff to do sometimes, I've missed a good 7 or 8 Cup races this season just to go hang out with my buds or whatnot... but generally I try to get my fix on racing weekly... which for me is 4 to 6 races

    I think it's crazy.

Just for discussion purposes, how old are you? Do you have a family with kids?

Race day is my day where I can sit in front of the TV and enjoy myself for a few hours. My wife doesn't mind, and luckily, we don't have kids, so I can do that. Still, working Monday-Friday only allows so much time for you to do stuff you really need to do, and spending more time in front of the TV (as enjoyable as it may be to some) isn't the right way to get an audience.

nope. It's crazy ideas like that which will get interest back into the sport. Not all this watering it down crap like shortening the races which is the dumbest idea ever.

1,000 mile races? They run 36 events a year. Are you out of your god damn mind?

Just about leaders never going out anymore, Ryan Newman, blown tire while leading with 4 to go in the 2004 Ford 400. Ryan Newman, leading with 3 to go at Lowes in October in 2007, blown tire and wrecks. Kasey Kahne, 2004 Lowes, blows a tire while leading with the dominant car. Tony Stewart, 2008 Coke 600, cuts a tire while leading with 4 to go, handing the win to Kasey Kahne. Just a couple examples off the top of my head. But on another note, thanks for these race reviews. Love em
