In 2001, legendary songwriter Lou Reed immersed himself in the world of one of his spiritual forefathers, Edgar Allan Poe, to produce a cycle of songs in which Reed's poetically streetwise sensibility merged with Poe's dark chronicles of terror and despair. This suite of songs was released on 2003 on CD as The Raven. Now, Reed's Poe-inspired lyrics have been collected into a book version of The Raven, complete with vivid, abstracted and enigmatic paintings inspired by Reed and Poe by Italian cartoonist Lorenzo Mattotti (The New Yorker).
