The City of Newark and The G.I. Go Fund participate in President Obama's 5-year plan to end veteran homelessness by holding a Stand Down for Homeless Veterans and providing over 600 of our most honorable Americans in need with the services and benefits they have earned. Mayor Cory A. Booker and G.I. Go Fund Executive Director Jack Fanous met the veterans and their families to offer their support and appreciation for all they have sacrificed for their country. The Mayor also encouraged members of the community and the nation to recognize the national tragedy of veterans living on our streets, as 33% of the homeless population once proudly wore our nation's uniform.
Organizers of the event also included the Stand Down of North Jersey, Inc., the New Jersey State National Guard, the state Department of Veterans' Affairs, and the federal Veterans' Administration.

Thanks for sharing this video and awakening the rest of the world to the plight of our homeless veterans. These men and women deserve to be off the street and into something with a roof over their heads.
