Iran has marked the "National Day Against Global Arrogance", a day that signifies the 1979 takeover of the former US embassy in Tehran by students, also known as the den of spies. But this year's rallies were different, because the demonstrators also showed solidarity with the Wall Street and anti-Capitalism protests in the United States and Europe, as well as the popular uprisings in the Middle East and North Africa.
A number of student representatives and university scholars were also present at the ceremonies and the mass rallies, mainly from Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Turkey and Bahrain.
The highlight of the congregation was an address by the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, in which he released one hundred documents to show Washington's role in sponsoring terrorist operations against Iran.
Jalili also said Iran's Foreign Ministry will soon summon the Swiss ambassador to Tehran, to condemn the US actions.
Last Thursday, Iran summoned the Swiss ambassador to condemn a US Congressional committee session on Iran. Tehran made the protest to the embassy, which handles US diplomatic matters, over remarks to the Congress on October 26, calling for the targeted assassination of Iranian officials. The Foreign Ministry said the argument for assassination contradicts Washington's legal obligations in combating terrorism.
