  • I think she has underestimated shame. If you want pure uncertainty, know that even practicing vulnerability does not guarantee connection. There can be no new age focus here if you want something new. It can't be about..."If I do this, then I get that". People are uplifted by freedom, and that is done through surrender to pain. Admitting powerlessness and discovering a power greater than self. Which replaces the false self bit by bit. Revealing the true self.

wellspoken word friend:) altough trying to find good definitions for the things (such as shame) that has power over our lifequality is in my opinion important. I think good definitions of phenomena sheds light on how it and other phenomena are causaly linked. example: vulnerability (revealing true self) has a causal link to connection (the coming togeather of selves). life of course consists of more than just a couple of variables making it chaotic and uncertain at times.

  • I love the part about how we CHOOSE authenticity, as opposed to just being authentic without any work.

  • @JFM135 Dr. Brown isn't underestimating shame at all, and she isn't about a new age focus. The primary focus of her work, which I have been practicing as well as teaching, is about empathy. She talks about how risky vulnerability can be as well as about how to set clear boundaries around who we share most vulnerably with. Dr. Brown is also a deeply spiritual person and states quite openly that she believes authenticity and spiritual growth go hand in hand.

  • Beautiful interview. Quick question. What mike did you use so both of your voices are clear? The volume is great on the video. I'm learning to do this right now...

  • @JFM135 The reality is that we are already venerable. Shame is not all that we have to contend with. There is also fear and insecurity. Brené Brown is suggesting that we acknowledge that we feel insecure and to have the courage to admit it. To own our whole story. Not just the parts that we think others will find appealing. The higher power here is truth and self awareness. Freedom is never achieved through surrender. What you talk of is subservience.

  • @JFM135 my following replies are in reversed order.

  • @JFM135 with vulnerability comes risk. and with risk comes potential gain (connection). therefore courage is an important varialbe in gaining connection (of course: in my opinion)

  • Well this came as a pleasant surprise. I just assumed that you only did photography. Your tallent and imagination know no bounds. Well duh. Congrats on the release of your book. *thumbs up*
