Western Avenue Baptist Church
"It's Christmas" 2009 concert series
The bacground music for the drama and narration is Arabian Dance from The Nutcracker Suite. Praise You starts with an introduction by the West Iredell Drum Corps announcing the arrival of important guests to the small town of Bethlehem, a scant five or six miles south of Jerusalem. The event didn't happen immediately at the birth of Jesus, but a year or two later. So you see Jesus no longer as a baby but as a young child. The wise men or kings were actually magi, most likely from Persia, who were the intellectual descendants of Daniel who led the magi during the exile of the Jews in the Persian empire. So the costumes for the magi are not accurate. However, the effect is the same. That is that we should consider that the greatest grandeur of human status, achievement and legacy is subject to God, even in his incarnation as a small boy. Their gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh prophesy his kingship, sacrifice and atoning work.
