Yes, the music is higher than it usually should be...but I believe that it creates a certain atmosphere for the movie - a kind of sensual tension. Ravel's music is haunting by itself; deep, dreamy, magical, and in a way, the way it is played here gives it a whole different dimension.
Oh, and I just cracked up at Daniel's expression while he is staring at Beart's face, especially at 0:36.

Looking at other clips of the movie, it seems like all the music is played a semitone high.

That's because he's actually a professional cellist, while the violinist is an actor who probably took a couple lessons to fake it better.
