It's for the look , they ajustment is better too and when you put the straps on the side they may be in the way when you do some mouvement , so behind it wont happen. The strap are easy to remove even from the fighter , to put on the armour, just ask a friend ^^

Why put the straps in the back rather than in the front or the sides? Seems to me it would be easier to put on if the straps where someplace that the fighter could get at them.
