Hmong-Thai descent. Born in California to a Hmong father and a Thai mother (who was adopted by a Hmong family). Brenda's paternal grandparents changed their last name from Xiong to Song when they immigrated to the United States.
I'm proud of her success, hats off!!! I'm reading a lot of messages from Hmong people and I do agree, Brenda doesn't support her Hmong Community. But my brother, Yia " The Bull" Mua who is well known in the Hmong Community and had supported our community and has put our name "Hmong" out to the public, way before Brenda's time. But a lot of Hmong People put him down and he represented Hmong people. I'm not boasting my bro, don't take it wrong. We can never satisfd people. Do u, Brenda! RIP, YIA!!
kuv xav kom Brenda piav txog nws tus kheej kom ntau zog nov thiab tsog nws txiv thiab nws niam los yog nws tsev neeg li duab thiab tham txog ntawm lawv tsev neeg rau peb cov Hmong los yog America paub (ua yog nws cov fans paub txog ntawm nws tus kheej kom ntau dua qhov qub)thiab kuv kuj tsis tau pob txog nws zoo thiab.
@DriftaV "Kuv lub npe yog hu ua Brenda" that is fine. There's two ways to say announce your name in Hmong." Kuv lub npe hu ua Brenda" thiab/los yog "Kuv lub npe yog Brenda." It don't matter really matter. Depends on how the question was asked? For example, "Koj lub npe hu li cas" thiab/los yog "Koj lub yog dab tsi".
Some people are really just stupid. >.> They never said she was Chinese, they were just replaying her clip as an actress talking about her background heritage. And she changed her last name to Song because people can't pronounce Xiong, it's understandable. I'm sure she still know how to speak it, she hasn't completely lost the Hmong side of her. Although I'd wish she would be more into the Hmong community, I know it'd be too much of a pressure.
