This was the ZX81 in the UK and cost £49.95 and was the cheapest home computer available. MAx resolution was 64 x 44 characters.

I have one of these which I purchased new at a yard sale. It came with a 16k rom expansion but unfortunately it was blown when I put +12v through the unit (the unit itself handled it quite well but not the memory pack). I modified it for composite video output.

I like how aftermarket companies made add ons to make the TS 1000 more of a computer. You could get a real keyboard, more RAM, a disk drive, and so on. In the end you'd hav this teeny little thing among a whole pile of equipment. Imagine how much fun troubleshooting would be on that.

OMFUG!!!! This was my VERY first computer... 30+ yrs later and I STILL remember how to program that game!!! I had ONLY the 16k epansion pack, but a Comodore tape drive to boot! lol

Had one too. Pluged it into my Mint Blacl and White Panasonic portable (That too 200 D Batteries") Sinclair.....

I remember spending New Years Eve typing the code for this game out of a magazine, then saving it to a bad cassette tape. Missed out on the fireworks for nothing. :)

I used to have a sinclair 1000. I used it for sending and receiving high speed morse code on a shortwave radio station back around 1984.

woooww..., thought I would never see this beauty again...; this was my first... (I do not know what to call it...jaajajaa...) what a fkg love/ hate relation....damnd piece of sht..., literally reached the sky when changed it for a Commodore vic 20..jjajaja...that was 25 ys ago...unibelieveble times...!!

Watch out for those deadly letter "A"s and those pesky less than signs, they'll ruin your day. WOW have we come a long way. I remember oogling at this thing in my local K-mart years ago. Getting a 99cent sub at the K-deli and checking out the Ti99 TI invaders. Ahh the good ol days...

I've watched all two videos of the Timex Sinclair 1000. That was my family's first computer when I was a kid. We didn't have fancy games like Scramble because we didn't have any external storage. You typed in a whole game by hand for an hour and then swore when your brother walked through the room and kicked the power cord out. We did have the 16Kb RAM expansion. We were so stoked when we upgraded to the Commodore 64 and an external tape drive.
