Martial arts are training, not combat. Most self defense or "Street effective" teaching in Martial Arts fails to train the Mental aspect of 360 degree awareness in combat and always being ready as well as perseverance, you might not see it but a Taidoka is probably more effective in evasion and getting out of danger which is probably the most effective self defense of all and they pick and choose when to attack, they are strong, flexible, have versitility, this is Budo no doubt about it.

@TheBimbly Haha i almost forgot what i wrote it was so long ago. You don't need martial arts to beat up people any prison can prove that, i guarantee that the majority of inmates didn't have any formal training and yet they still are effective at assaulting someone or worse, from a combat perspective is taido realistic...No but is it Budo....Yes, why because the true meaning of budo isn't just about combat it's about longevity, unless you think your invincible.

wow, it's amazing how fast they can cover so much ground! the jumping, etc. is really cool, too. i don't care how impractical it may be, i'd love to be able to do that!

Exactly. It is beautiful and awesome. All this unrelenting noise about "street fighting" gets tiresome.

Yeah, you were getting a little hostile. I don't think anyone in that room trying to be a tough guy. I think they just thought it was fun and beautiful and were enjoying themselves. I am not sure how anyone can criticize that as a reason for doing martial arts.
