Judge for yourself whether he is fit to be the head of Canada.

Before he needed our votes, Ignatieff, the historian, questioned the legitimacy of Ukrainian independence, by writing in his book Blood and Belonging: "My difficulty in
taking Ukraine seriously goes deeper than just my cosmopolitan suspicion of nationalists everywhere. Somewhere inside, I'm also what Ukrainians would call a
Great Russian (he takes huge leaps of faith in assuming that any Ukrainian would call him great), and there is just a trace of old Russian disdain for these little Russians. The thought of their independence conjured up only images of
embroidered peasant shirts, the nasal whine of ethnic instruments, phony Cossacks in cloaks and boots, nasty anti-Semites."

The fact is, Ignatieffs opinion of Ukrainians is molded by his familys Tsarist, imperial past. Ignatieffs great-grandfather, Count Nicholai, was said to be the richest man in Europe who lost most of his money gambling in Monte Carlo . Ignatieffs grandfather, Pavel, was governor of Kyiv gubernia, and served as education minister to Nicholas II, the last Tsar of Russia. The Ignatieff family has always seen Ukraine as nothing more than a part of a once Great Russia .

Ironically, while Michael Ignatieff refuses to withdraw the smear of anti-Semitism which he places on Ukrainians, when in comes to dealing with his own Russian ancestry, Ignatieff conveniently fails to address his familys complicity in the Tsaristera pogroms. As The Canadian Encyclopedia: Historica recently pointed out, in his family biography, entitled The Russian Album, Michael Ignatieff side-steps his greatgrandfather Count Nikolai Ignatiev's role in running the pogroms in Tsarist Russia. It was Count Nikolai who instituted the notorious anti-Jewish May Laws. Yet, according to Michael Ignatieff, rounding up all the Jews was a necessity to protect them from outraged peasantry. So much for historical objectivity.

Seems like he needs refresher course on Slavic History, where he would discover or re-discover that the Ukrainian culture is at least 2,000 years older than the Russian one.

I also wonder if he thinks (and I use this word very loosely) that the Czech, Slovak, Georgian, Moldavian, Belorussian, Romanian, Lithuanians, Latvians, Estonians, etc.... are also Little Russians. I guess he is NOT familiar with the long standing and widely used and recognized term: Eastern Europe. And get this: he thinks that people, in general, will have a "genetic proclivity (defn: a natural propensity or inclination; predisposition) towards anti-semitism". This guy (again used very loosely) must be a TOTAL riot at parties.

  • probably the best choice for liberals but in comparison to the US political talent pool; he has about as much personality as the Sam the Eagle character on the muppets!

  • hi-thank you for the comment-with the current situation, you are probably right - but as PM, Kennedy is the best choice after Iggy. With Kennedy at the helm, put Trudeau under Kennedy to head Finance. It is clear that Harper is upsetting the French Cds (based on what happened before Christmas with his comments on the Bloc. Why? I think Harper wants to change the position of the Federal Govt so that it does not have to bow down to the French Qc's- w their threats of succession for 30+ yrs.

  • and why u guys talking about ukrainians as a nation. Ukraine was a Province of Russia, they got their first independence only 15 yrs ago.

  • The Ukrainian culture is more than 2000 years older than the Russian one. The Ukrainian culture is over 7500 years old. Ukraine was forced to become a part of the Communist USSR, and never a part of Russia.

  • who teh fuck cares bout ukrainians lol.

Ignatieff is a born Canadian Russian Blue blood. his grandfather was a Count and a Minister of Education in tzars Russia.

  • Most of the world has learned to respect Ukraine and Ukrainians ... we were the first to have a bloodless revolution .... where the world took notice, and followed in Ukraine's footsteps under 2 years later in the Middle East when they had their bloodless revolution.

  • I'm not suggesting that ALL urban dwelling Liberal voters with post secondary education are of the mindset that Iggy's 34 years abroad are unimportant.

That would be unfair to those who have examined the issues and come to their own conclusions.

I'm talking about the self declared 'geniuses' who fall into the trap of automatically believing everything that their 'leader' says without considering their leader's personal self serving reasons for saying it.

  • I don't like Harper but will never vote for Ignatieff, I can't believe that he's actually compared his self-serving 34 yr absence to that of an immigrant who made a choice to come here. Right after the attack ads came out, Ignatieff said that even though he's been away, he IS Canadian, because his father & grandfather served Canada - ha, ha, way to offend 1 & 2 generation Canadians. Michael is more Canadian than you, because his grandfather was important in Canadian government & yours was not!

  • Iggy looks a bit like Frankenstein

  • Michael Ignatieff BA, MA, PHD - you forgot complete arsehole.

  • @UkrainianKozak I'm just reading your past comments; your generalized statements regarding people are appalling (regardless of whether they are positive)."Ukranians are into life and living"..how would you know how EVERY SINGLE Ukranian is without generalizing? Also, I'd be hard-pressed to find a country whose people are NOT "into life and living". We are all Earthlings, Terrans, from Earth. Ukranians are not better than everyone else. We are all people. Your views have clearly not elevated you.

  • @Canadian2009able Who the fuck cares. What next? : "Oh my God, why haven't the media talked about his bowel habits?? Hmmm...of course, the media is biased"... *rolls eyes*

  • @UkrainianKozak Well, Quebec's Quiet Revolution was a bloodless revolution. WAYYYY back before the Ukraine, in the United Arab Emirates, the first sheikhs of the emirate of Abu Dhabi lead a bloodless revolution that resulted in a bloodless overthrow of government... it's a bit presumptuous to claim "bloodless revolution" as an "invention" for any ONE country. All the bloodless revolutions were a unique result of their own unique and isolated incidents. To say they were "copying" undermines them

  • Liberals got there asses kicked big time this election because it was not only Ukrainians they offended but also called the Native Canadians "Featherheads" and claimed an NDP rival of Native descent would not win just because he was Native (He did win that riding though). Liberals turned into a party of bigots, the last 4 years.

  • The tone of this video and the Harper supporters who are jumping on board make me think of the Tea Party in the U.S. It is the same mindless nonsense and barking dog mentality. Any thoughtful voter will ignore this stuff and choose a leader who will make decisions based on reality, not ideology of the Right or the Left.

  • @euginam91Nonsense. Ukraine is Rus' ("Kyivan Rus") but Russia has nothing to do with that.

  • @RussianBoxer84 just f.y.i... Russia began from Kievan Rus ... technically Ukraine was the bedrock from which the Russian nation arose and it originated at least some of Russian culture... also Ukraine was never a province of Russia ... it was a republic in the USSR... just like Russia was a republic in the USSR
