The battle for the Pacific began in earnest last week, as the Kings kicked off their 2011-12 campaign with two games against division rivals.

On Thursday, the royal regiment took flight and headed to Phoenix to take on the dreaded Desert Dogs. And in the second period, it was Cap Brown who able to sneak one past Mike Smith for the Kings' first goal of the game.

Later in the period, Kyle Clifford added some insurance with his first goal of the season.

But the real hero of the battle was goaltender Jonny Quick. Quick stopped all 28 shots he faced for his second shutout in a row.

The Black and White battalion then returned home to find that the dreaded Dallas Stars had invaded Staples on Saturday.

The ensuing firefight led to a spectacular showdown. Both teams were gunning for one another with white-hot intensity.

And for the third time this season, it was Jack Morter Fire Johnson who came through in the clutch, scoring with five minutes left to give the Kings a 1-0 lead.

But again the story of the game was the play of Jonny Quick. The Monster from Milford, Connecticut recorded his third straight win, allowing the Kings to remain unbeaten in the division.

It was the first time a Kings goaltender had blanked three opponents in a row. Thankfully, two of them were against their hated rivals.

But the war has just begun. Countless battles will rage all season. Only time will tell to see if the Kings will be able to rule the Pacific.
