Earth, Wind & Fire leader Maurice White was a founding member of the Salty Peppers. While a session drummer for Chess Records and a member of the Ramsey Lewis Trio, White started a group with bassist/keyboardist Don Whitehead and vocalist Wade Flemons. The Salty Peppers had a Midwest hit with "La La La" -- issued on White's own Hummit Records -- and the track was leased to Capitol, which led to a record contract for the group. (The single was "Un Huh Yeah" b/w "Your Love Is Life.") After visiting California several times, White decided to make the move west and quit Lewis' trio. With demo tapes that featured the skills of Chicago multi-talent Donny Hathaway, White began shopping demo tapes (some featuring the skills of Donny Hathaway) around, then signed to Warner Bros., while the Salty Peppers eventually evolved into Earth, Wind & Fire.

  • Finally somebody pulled this single out and posted it! Thank you! I've been reading about it for years being an avid EWF fan and could never find it. Cool!

  • @eastbrookmusic I had Pt. 2 of this posted as well but somehow I accidentally deleted it.Whenever I get around to digging through all my 45's I'll re-post it for you!!! Thanks for the comment!!!!

  • Guess you were the only one on the planet posting that song! Maurice White lost about 1$?.

  • @lgischler lol...Yeah they REALLY LOST BIGTIME MONEY on that post and the whole 15 views that it received!!!!

  • The Salty Peppers became Earth, Wind & Fire!

  • @lgischler You're exactly right....They also had a second song as The Salty Peppers "Uh Huh Yeah" that didn't sell as well as La.La,La...The B side Your Love Is Life however, was on their very 1st LP as E.W.F but the title was Love Of Life...I had to remove that post for copyright issues!!!!

  • The personel on this record was Charles Handy trumpet,Don Myrick saxophone,Wade Fleming piano,Pete Cosey guitar,Louis Satterfield bass,Maurice White drums. The voices are Don Whitehead,Maurice White,Wade Fleming,Louis Satterfield and Derf Reklaw. This was the original Earth,Wind and Fire recording. With exception of Fleming, the rest of the band were the Pharaohs.

  • @ATamandua Yes indeed. I must admit that I've head so many songs now that I can often here parts of ther songs in them. It must be getting terribly difficult to write anything original now. I see there are some negative comments about this song - but we all have to start somewhere

  • @ewaf88 Indeed, at 1:21 I hear the germination of the beginning of EWF's "Sing a song"...

  • Earth Wind and Fire came a long way!!!! This song isn't the best, but it is kind of cute.

  • This song sucks. Good thng Maurice formed EW&F. It just goes to show you how creativity can grow when you are around the right type of people and/or musicians.

  • A very interesting melody. Some of the chords are a little like Ewaf
