"Help out your local SPCA"

The locals are usually not much better than the national ones. We've been doing dog rescue for over 40 years and have little use for the SPCA, local or national, and NO USE for any group with the word "humane" in the title. They are only technically non-profit, and collect huge salaries, not to mention the sweetheart advertising contracts with friends, ex-officers & familty members -- just like PETA.

Support a local, UNAFFILIATED rescue group.

All the more reason NOT to adopt from, or support, the big corporate "charities" that spent most of their money on high salaries and advertising.

Find a small, local rescue group NOT affiliated with anyone.

The rescue my wife & run DOES adopt to non-fenced environments (even apartments) for certain dogs, if we are convinced by visits & vet checks tha the people can handle it (and have before).

there's a huge difference between the ASPCA and SPCA. the ASPCA (which is this commercial) gets funds from the government whereas local SPCA shelters don't. Help out your local SPCA because they rely on donations only. Many people don't know the difference
