  • Amazing escapement design; I've been looking for a simple yet effective idea to make one for my first clock (weight based, in my case), thanks for posting this!

  • The contacts are only closed when the pendulum slows enough to engage the Hipp detent. The Hipp detent is that wiggly thing you see moving on the end of the horizontal arm, each time the pendulum passes by it. When the pendulum slows enough to "catch" the detent, it lifts it and closes the contacts, thus energizing the coil, thus pulling on the rod that impulses the pendulum. Simple, no?

  • What stops the 'contact arm' being pushed up every single time the pendulum swings to the left?

  • This design is pretty nifty, I can't wait to have the opportunity to build one some time next year. I also really like how you have revised your website.
