  • I think you're wrong. Moral nihilists are way overrepresented in people who oppose the state as contrasted to the rest of the population.

Why a lot of people oppose The State and still cling to some sort of morality, I think it's because with the type of morality they have it's easy to see the state as "evil".

And btw, I don't think hitting a child even in that situation is excusable. Talking works a million times better, and it provides an environment of trust, rather than one of domination.

  • CL would like you to think otherwise. I don't understand why I am running across so many moralizing anarchists..

I agree talking is more effective. Maybe the wrong words are being used. Parents can start talking to the child from the very instance of life.

I do think morality is a carry over from childhood.

When I see a parent hit a child, I go over and ask, If I hit them, the parent, will it make them a better parent? I get such a confused look from them.

  • Zull, unlike most people who are anti-child abuse, I have actually had the balls to confront people about it. I have in reality threatened to kick a stranger's ass who was freaking out on his child in public and I will do it again.

However, trust me when I say, in this instance, the spanking really was for the kids own good. Although, I am willing to consider that better parenting in the past may have prevented the situation from occurring in the first place.

  • he already tried it several times, trust me, that kid wanted to be hit by a car

  • It is more than just about words, but about a difference in philosophy and politics. Words out of context are meaningless.

  • @ Zull

what are you talking about? In Ryan's video he hardly argues against their beliefs, but only their words. So, if you and Ryan believe the same thing, why are you making such a big deal about something which is arbitrary?

  • For me, to become a nihilist. Become aware of your beliefs. This is a choice. You can make any choice at anytime.

  • No, definitions are arbitrary. I choose to become self aware. Because I am aware, I become a nihilist. I am aware there is no morals, truth, ethics, meaning to life, beliefs but what I choose. I choose to or not to choose these things. How can I do this? I choose.

  • Anarchy is not a statement of morals. Nihilism is a statement about the nonexistence of morals. There are no morals, no truth, no belief, no life meaning By this, I mean absolutes. We chose these things arbitrarily. Why? because we chose to. Why? Because we chose to.

Belief...to believe is a very powerful tool. To force someone to give up a belief will cause thoughts and action of suicide. Use belief very carefully if at all.

  • But that still doesn't validate the abuse in my eyes.

If the kid trusts their parent so little as to not believe it when they tell them running into traffic is dangerous, then I think that kid doesn't want to be anywhere near that parent.

So more domination is not the answer.

  • I don't want people forcibly preventing others from doing whatever they want with their bodies, including suicide, and that applies to kids as well.

Now, the problem is that kids often don't know that an action will get them killed, so it's not suicidal, it's simply careless playing. And that's when words will be helpful. If they trust the person giving advice.

But if the parent always "teaches" by domination, the kid won't trust them and so it can get to a point where words are useless.

  • I believe you. It's great that you have the balls to confront child abusers. I do too. But it's hard because in most situations I expect other people to defend the abuser and attack me for trying to defend the child.

I trust you, this situation was extreme, and yes, better parenting in the past would have prevented this apparent need for violence.

But ultimately, if the kid is so fucked up he wants to get hit by a car, and no words will convince him otherwise, I think it's his choice.

  • I can give an anarchists point of view, since I am one. I how ever like most anarchist I disagree with most other anarchist, so take it as a single opinion. It is relatively simple really, anarchists are preoccupied with the idea of a stateless society. What you define as morals are the laws & control of religion & government. If anarchists are to live in a stateless society where then will morals, or ethics come from? How do we coexist with reasonable security of physical & mental health?

  • Well, thats what it seems like, and if that is the case it makes this whole deal look pretty pathetic.
