  • @Tonjevic UR PREACHING TO THE CONVERTED IN REGARDS to a story being a 2 way street, but i disagree that its partly the responsibilty of the reader to suspend reality. all preceptions are drawn from reality, but its the writer's responsibilty alone to pick the angle from which the reader percieves, the reader should only dot the i's with say a character's appearance based on their actions for example, we are both on the same page though

The relationship between reader and author is not one-way. The reciprocal aspect is that while it is up to the author to generate the text - plot; characterisation, literary construction - it is the place of the reader to be generating the images in their mind. It's therefore the role of both parties to be suspending disbelief, where the author provides an internally consistent story, and you accept the book on its (internal) terms.

It's telling that you judge it on its sleeve.

  • isnt the numero uno rule of fiction, susension of disbelief, when satanic verses was published, it was more famous for rushdie being guarded be the police, so if you read the book you are always aware in back of your mind of it being imagined by the author and so you are never able to commit Y\OUr imagination to the book, a cardinal sin. and wasnt he seen as nothing spectacular until all the fatwa hype. bad novels have photos of author on the book sleeve, avoid at all costs
