Regardless of whether or not you support the death penalty in principle, it's likely that you believe that the ultimate punishment should be reserved for the "worst of the worst" crimes, that it should be applied fairly, and that innocent people should not be executed.

This documentary assumes that the "Burden of Proof" is on the State to prove that the death penalty system it operates is in good working order. However, growing mounds of powerful evidence, fragments of which are dramatically illustrated in "Burden of Proof," suggest that the system is so badly broken that it's time to stop executing people for a while in order to step back and take a hard, sober look at things.

"Burden of Proof" will give some of the most ardent death penalty supporters second thoughts about how confident we can be about the reliability of the state's death penalty machinery.
