I have run into a problem after swapping in a new fuel pump and new distributor. The fuel pump turns on and fuel rail has pressure but it will not stay running for more than a second or two almost sounds like it's 180 degress out of time but the dizzy will only go in one way so I don't think that's it.

  • hey did you fix this yet? I got a car doing this exact same thing in my shop, have a hunch its vacuum leaks or the FPR but not sure, going to look at it more today

  • @robnox Still haven't fixed it, it's just sitting in the driveway right now.

  • fuel is brand new, the car started fine before the pump initially went out. I thought it would be a quick take bad pump out and replace with new one job....I was wrong so now it just sits in my driveway under layers of dirt waiting to be junked lol.

  • I have the same issue, I'm going to check my fuel injectors tomorrow. I'll let you know if I fix it. I do get the car running (wont be able to drive faster than 30 mph and when at a stop it will stall) by turning on the fuel pump first by connecting Fp and B+ in the OBD1 port. You will be able to hear the fuel pump clearly, if not, your fuse is out or you need to get a new relay for it.

  • My Girlfriends car did the exact same thing... It happened to be the fuel system was clogged somewhere. A can of seafoam later, it ran like a champ.

  • Found the problem. The ignition coil (primary winding) and distributor cap were both bad, and it blew the AM2 fusible link. I'll be working on it more tomorrow, and hopefully fire it up. Cheers

  • hope u didn't junk the car when all it is a simple reference to your big green book under troubleshooting. if you don't have it buy it from the autoparts store. make sure that all cables are connected and grounded. plus you have the intake off, put it back on with the filter and vacuum lines.

  • it may be the green fuse connected to the batter
