This was one of the best luck I've had shooting stuff on a dive. I went in to get some footage of this grouper nest I found and just after I start recording this lobster looking dude comes marching out from behind the rock. The only think I'm certain of is that its a crustacean. This footage was taken off the Great Tobago, just west of Jost Van Dyke in the BVIs. I've seen one of these before so it can't be unusually rare, a Red Hook bar has one of these up on the wall and they call it a "crayfish." This looks nothing like a crawfish to me. Hat tip to Justine for identifying this as a Slipper Lobster.

  • Yeah, after this video i got up close to him and tapped him with my camera. BAD IDEA. He flipped out and smacked my camera as he flew off. My camera housing leaked pretty bad and I couldn't take anymore pix that dive. No permanent damage though..

  • slipper lobster of course!

couldn't resist, hope all is well!

  • @justinebaileykimball That's it! Thankyou Justine!! It looks as though they aren't even that rare, I am definitely nabbing one of these guys for dinner next trip. Hope all is well with you, thanks again.
