Although his competitive resume lacks the accomplishments of some of his Hall of Fame peers, Don Howorth has earned his place among their ranks with his legendary V taper, which encompassed broad shoulders -- arguably the widest of the top competitors in the 1960s -- and lats sweeping to a narrow waist. That look transcended his contest placings and, in any discussion on shoulder width, he takes on iconic status.

  • @Naturalhit joe weider urged howorth to continue competing, but howorth declined, deciding that family obligations and a secure income (only the Mr. Olympia came with a cash prize in those days) were higher on his agenda. he's 75 by now and still trains three times per week.

  • Awesome job, Jon. Wasn't he Mr. World as well?

  • @Naturalhit i cant confirm that some uploader say he's mr. world, but we need proof cause as ive notice his competitive career theres no mr world for him.

  • @swordfishjon You know what you are right. I've checked and checked myself. I did found Mr. Los Angeles, but that's not a world title though.

Nice use of Jurasic Park theme.

  • @Naturalhit check the details here its complete :P

  • what an amazing looking strength athlete. Howorth was the stuff. The physiques of his primetime blows the current freakshow out of the water.

  • Put it this way, Vince Gironda, widely acclaimed as the greatest trainer in bodybuilding history and an inveterate advocate of aesthetic greatness over sheer mass for it's own sake, sung Mr. Howorth's praises often & enthusiastically. And Vince was NOT an easy man to please.

  • Yes..she was a true Beauty,,,,XXX

  • as it is called the song in the background?

  • how wide were his shoulders?

  • Great classic physique, thanks for posting.

  • @nezpercenathan LOL.........I guess so! Vince also was quite the spontaneous practical joker........One day I was in the process of trying to bench press a substantial weight. As I concentrated on the lift, Vince walks up to the head of the bench and FARTS ON MY FOREHEAD!!!!!! LMAO!!!! Needless to say THAT ruined my concentration and I (and all the other gym rats) burst out laughing! those were good times!

  • @code2high So you are the guy! I have heard this story a few times, but never knew who it happened to, I guess you told some people, and word of the event got around.

  • Trained under Vince, and used Rheo H. Blair's nutrition system. He used to work for Blair part time to earn supplements he could not otherwise afford.

  • @PeterJRaia : You are absolutely right about Vince being a hard man to please Peter , however, if you followed his advice you reaped the rewards. I started working out at his gym in 1970 at age 15 (145lbs). When I graduated high school in 1973 I was an impressive 180 lbs! It was either Vince's way or the highway! He once saw me eating a hamburger at Fat Jacks burger stand down the street from the gym. He walked up to me and grabbed the burger out of my mitts and threw it into the garbage! LOL
