What is the Ketogenic diet...in a simplistic sense? is it healthy? What are the upsides and downsides to this diet?

  • keto is not high protein, it's high fat (the fat is only lower when you're utilizing your body fat - losing weight); generating ketones is not hard on the kidneys unless you have damage there; most folks eat enough carbs so as not to need gluconeogenesis (not that GNG is all that bad) AND every fat molecule (triglyceride) also contains a carb molecule (glycerol).

    I only listened to half, as YouTube stalled and I gotta get to bed.

  • Josh, I'm glad you mention that you don't understand how this diet works, and state you are not a doctor. These two points are the only accurate statements you make in your video. Cynthia Kenyon, a biologist on the other hand (and she's not alone), is able to answer why and how exactly this diet works in her Ted Conference speech. It's an amazing presentation and quite an eye opener. Hope you look into it.

  • @CoryCrushMusic in the long term the low carb diet with lower tyroid function!! Even Atkins does say that on his book.. i did low carb for a year.. i gained weight and went UP 2 cloths sizes Not Down!! i was pretty low carb!! however i did slow down my tyroid Big Time!!

  • Josh, you're misguided. If people go off the diet like you suggested, they gain weight because of increased insulin sensitivity. AND if you actually read Dr. Atkins's book, then you'd know that it is a LIFESTYLE, not a temporary diet. You are not meant to come off of it.

  • Right in the beginning. Wrong on several levels. I will make a video response if you will approve it.

  • most bodies run off carbs. when you do a keto diet it takes about 3 - 6 weeks for your body to re learn how to run off fat. the high key tones thrown off are only during the transition, after which your body will use them more efficiently. only after the transition can you make judgments.
