On the move to California, I stopped in Joliet, Illinois for some railfanning. The M5 on this thing nearly blasted my eardrums out as it went by!!
Next stop along the way was Cheyenne, Wyoming for some UP action. Videos of Cheyenne, & Green River are now uploaded.

  • no M5... K5HLl

  • @lukasfols1 Either way it was loud as hell man. How can you tell it's a K5 series anyway? Sounded like an M5 to me. K5 series are much higher pitched. I have lots of videos of k5HLA's on my channel, & none of them sound anywhere like this. UP6936 (DDA40X) has an M5 on it, & it sounds exactly like the one in this video, & that's what I titled it as an M5 horn. I couldn't tell on the loco in this video because it was whippin' by so friggin' fast, & didn't have a chance to look at it closely. LOL

  • Nice! I caught a six unit Union Pacific light power move in Emeryville just recently.

  • @CaliforniaRailfan101 Yeah, I know. You did a great job catching all the old school power on that one too!

  • Cool video!!! 7 units unimpeded by freight cars. Now imagine if they ran that all the way up to 8th notch, on the throttle.

  • @ChicagoRailMan Thanks! Yep, all 3 different paint schemes on that run-by too! That would sound, & look pretty darn cool if they did bump it up to 8 before the crossing. They'd really be bookin' it too!

  • Yeah, that's a K5HL. Not a M5.

  • @GP9railfan Yeah i hear this same horn by my house sometimes and it sounds almost like a Leslie RS3K. You just have to know a ton about train horns and you will be able to know what is what. The new K5LLA's sound even closer to the older M5's and Old Cast P5's...

  • Thats no M5 horn, that be a K5HLL lol.

  • Thanks. Me too.
