@solobeavis66 Please read the 25th anniversary edition of the Islanders that came out in 1996, the beginning will tell you the history of the logo and colors, it has nothing to do with the New York Mets.
That is why it's called a "rumor." No one knows where or what is going to happen to the Isles come 2015. We can only hope and speculate, but until a shovel is put into the ground, nothing has been decided.
@mrceebees14 incorrect. The Islanders did indeed take their colors from the Mets. If there is no connection between the Islanders and Mets then what's with these Willets Point rumors ??
@solobeavis66 I know my geography well, I didn't say they weren't part of Long Island, I said they were part of the city of New York which is what they are.
They got blue and orange in the uniforms because blue and orange is the color of Nassau county, has nothing to do with the Mets.
@mrceebees14 Queens and Brooklyn are parts of Long Island if you look at a map. The older folks know this. They got the blue and orange in the uniforms from the Mets, because they were Long Islands only other sports franchise. The Arbour / Torrey / Bossy / Potvin Islanders got me and all my friends into hockey and we all had those Trottier Mylec sticks. The first step is getting Charles Wang out. The second step is finding an owner who will pay for a new buliding himself.
@solobeavis66 I simply want those days back on Long Island. With the shape the Island is in and the fact none of the younger folks want to live here because it's just so damn expensive, to at least have a winner in the community would be nice.
20 years of hell, I think we deserve to have a winner in Nassau or even Suffolk, if just one more time before I die would be all I ask.
@solobeavis66 What gives us pride in the Isles is that we are not the city, people ask "do you want them to leave all together?" In a way, if they go to Brooklyn or Queens, it would not be the same team. 33 years is a very long time spent with this team that was 10 minutes from my house when they won those cups. You couldn't go down a block without see a group of kids back then with Canadian or Titan hockey stick and a mylec puck or roll of black electrical tape.
@3131djn No points for OT losses ..Isles went to the Conference finals that year and beat Pittsburgh in a huge upset Look up David Volek

Isles had some big guns on offense in this era- always dreaded playing them as a Sabre fan (ESP. Turgeon's years from 1992-1994)
