-Clip 11-
The Real Richard Nixon
Vol. 3: "28 Days"
Interview with Frank Gannon

In this interview/documentary segment, President Richard Nixon discusses his leaving the White House on the day of his resignation from the presidency (August 9, 1974). He also responds to the frequent criticism of him for not mentioning his wife First Lady Pat Nixon in his farewell remarks. Furthermore, he describes the thoughts that went through his mind when flying away in a helicopter from the White House for the final time. At the end, he sums up the triumphal and tragic story of his life.

The video clip comes from 38 hours of interviews that Nixon did with Frank Gannon in 1983 during eight days of interviews spread out over several months. Gannon used to work for Nixon and was well acquainted with the former president. Subsequently, Nixon is more at ease and open here than in most of his recorded interviews, including the more famous Frost/Nixon interviews, which were more confrontational.

This volume of the interview covers Richard Nixon's account of his final days in office.

  • To anyone who criticizes Richard Nixon: What in the world have YOU done to be so proud of in society? What's YOUR contribution, other than writing incoherent, illiterate comments about someone who served his country?

  • Ironically in '86 Newsweek Magazine had Nixon on the cover with the title : "HE'S BACK!" in reference to his elder statesman status and foreign policy. Even Clinton said Nixon was the first person he called on foreign policy advice. Clinton said he'd always be grateful to Nixon.

  • @barrister30 served his country? i highly doubt that. let me list what i have not done: i have not deceived millions. i have not slaughtered hundreds of thousands. i have not squandered the integrity of a nation for decades (look at the mess you're in right now. where do its roots lie?) for personal gain. sure he had his benefits. but he was a two-faced pig and not good at his job in any remarkable way.
