The Opry = Shit..these days. They all induct people like Carrie Underwood, and fight about Hank Williams.

It breaks my heart to think these voices are going to be lost in time. Sure the big stars will be remembered but look at the talent that's been on this stage that wasn't a national name but they had national talent. I don't even listen to what they call country music anymore it's not what I consider country.

I am still a big fan of the old country/bluegrass music. As for todays country, it sounds very homogenized and bland. Once in a while there is one song that sticks out and is very good, but the new stuff is not anywhere near as good or original than that of yesteryear.

I love the classic Grand Ole Opry 50,s 60s 70s Ernest Tubbs and Johnny Cash and Grandpa Jones and Minnie Pearle are my favorites My Grandparents was a big Grand ole opry fan Hank Sr was a talented and i love his song but he screwed himself up on booze and dont be blaming the Grand Ole Opry for kicking him out !

This is not a Grand Ol Opry production, this is an out take from a promo of 90 half hour shows filmed by Al Gannaway in the 1950's The program was called The Country Show and was later released as a Video collection called Memories Grand Old Opry Stars of the 50's. I was Gannaway's Chief Editor on the project and have DVD copies available

I'm Glad, the Opry, is still on the air-radio wsm 650 am. It is going to a modern mainstream, like country commercial radio on FM. They changed the Barn backdrop, the microphone stands,dropped GooGoos a sponser.Kicked Stonewall Jackson, off for a while,because he was "too old".Refused membership for late Jimmy Martin,won't reinstate Hank Sr., & welcome NEW country acts, that worship Rock stars, & Reggae Music. Go,Figure it ! Or write Opry Manager-Pete Fisher, a letter, about how you feel.

If they haven't already done so .. some corporation somewhere should go about issuing a whole series of Grand Ole Opry "Best Of" documentaries. There'd be more than sufficient demand to warrant it - similar to what Shenachie have done so well, in re-issuing an 8 volume collection of Lester & Earl + The Foggy Mountain Boys' famous TV shows of the 50s & 60s. I guess, though, that much depends on damned copyright / intellectual property issues. But boy it'd be great to see it happen !!

I think it would be really neat if comedy was still a regular feature of the Grand Ole Opry. Of course the main focus always has been, and always should be, good country music. Still, including country comedians like Minnie Pearl increased the variety of entertainment that the Opry had to offer.
