Affirmed and Alydar
They raced each other 10 times, from June 15, 1977, in the Youthful at Belmont, to August 19, 1978, in the Travers at Saratoga. Affirmed won seven of these matches including thrilling duels in all three Triple Crown races.

  • What song did you use?

  • @ilovethecure95 E.S. Posthumus - Nara it's from Cold Case title

  • thanks for posting the song...i would love to see this music as the backdrop to Sunday Silence and Easy Goer's Preakness epic.

  • Your wish is mine command ;)

  • That's very generous of your time. I look forward to it. I'm sure it will be amazing. The Preakness Race has special meaning for me. It was the first horse race I ever saw. Then last month, when I took the bar exam, I called on the image of Sunday Silence's stretch run throughout the exam as the type of effort I would need to sustain to pass. I get my results in late October so we will see.

  • Good luck ;)

  • Their last race. When Alydar was impeded by Affirmed you will notice that the force of this caused him to switch leads, he always ran on his left lead. Here he is on his right lead, all chance lost...and you will notice Affirmed on his left lead. Alydar was surging through on the rail and would have won that day. RIP Affirmed & Alydar, two true greats !!!

  • Affirmed's trainer wasn't quite on the mark with his comment that Affirmed was greater than Secretatriat. The times in the Triple crown races don't bear that out. In fact, other than the Belmont Stakes, where Secretariat ran Sham into the ground, Sham's times were better than Affirmed's.

  • Yea...another great rivalry tuned out to be Alysheba v Bet Twice. Don't see that much longer nowadays :(

  • Great tribute! Alydar sired my favorite race horse of all time. Alysheba. :)
