Cornforth had two marching Jazz Bands. The Cavaliers and The Rebels. These clips show a parade through Cornforth High Street and a competition at the school field or the Community Centre field.

  • These Jazz Bands were great entertainment, gave the kids something worthwhile to do, learning a bit of discipline and to take a pride in themselves. How times have changed!

  • hi brought back memories i was in the redhall revellers from darlington, there were very good times

  • just seen this clip and what, memories of gilesgate young genarations, band i was in new durham saints the other band from gileagate/ sherburn road area of durham. Bring back the good old day of teh mjazz band world, it not like that know.

  • Oh what a great clip, sad to see juvenile jazz bands almost redundant, even those that are operational are tiny in comparison. Senior bands killed the juvenile movement. I was in Cruddas Park Chieftains and remember having friends in Amble Coquet Lights, Consett Salamanders, Chopwell Swaloows and Easington Tip Toppers..............happy days.!!!

  • Excellent memories have you any footage of other carnivals especially the Hylton Castle Guards?

Well done theres a pint in it for you!

  • Hi drew, I was in the Ushaw Moor Moorlanders, I can remember the Cavaliers as Joined the moorlanders in 1977 and retired 1982, happy times. The moorlanders are having a reunion on the 3rd Oct, any information please contact Wendy Davis (was Coatham) on facebook she'l give any info but must say it's band members of the moorlanders, but you can leave messages on the site.

    Mary

  • The competition was in West Cornforth (Doggie). The first band on the clip was the West Cornforth Cavaliers. My mother more or less started the band. My wife (Tracy was Smith now Taylor) is the mascot second from the front. I (Glenn Taylor) was in the drum core at the back. Good close up of Drew Young, he trained the band.

  • Wow That takes me back. I'm the liitle girl in the centre of the Newtonaires display swinging the Mace. Don't know how I found this. Brilliant
