More than 2,500 babies are born at Warwick Hospital every year.

NHS local spent the day with labour ward manager Mel Crockett to understand the work involved before and during the birth.

There is no such thing as a "typical day" in a labour suite; very little planning can be done as just about everything is unpredictable.

Many mothers coming onto the suite for the first time often feel anxious, but Mel and her multidisciplinary team - which includes support workers, midwives, anaesthetists and obstetricians - work hard to ensure they have a positive experience during this life-changing time.

Mel says her job is incredibly rewarding. She has delivered thousands of babies, but still finds every birth amazing.
