@crazy031089 The term "gay" as happy, etc was commonplace and used in songs as far along as the 1960s. In the standard American lexicon, it was used predominantly to mean those things as well. I recently heard an FDR speech where he used it. Don't know when / how it took the alternate meaning so thoroughly. Just goes to show how language is ever evolving.

@cmania26 originaly feeling gay meant feeling happy (wikipedia: "The term gay was originally used to refer to feelings of being "carefree", "happy", or "bright and showy"") so they are not singing about homosexuality
